A word about constipation
One of the most frequent bowel problems that people experience today is constipation. Constipation is generally attributed to a low fiber diet and lack of sufficient water, which cause our fecal matter to become condensed and compressed.
Stress can also affect nutrient absorption and cause irritation of the small intestine. The large intestine absorbs minerals and water. When the membrane of the large colon is unhealthy (impacted), it cannot assimilate and absorb the minerals and creates deficiency diseases. The health of the entire body is maintained when the intestinal system is working properly.
A constipated digestive system is one in which the transition of toxic wastes is slow and the consistency of the stool can cause strain (which over time may cause hemorrhoids, varicose veins, hiatal hernia, or other mechanically induced problems). The longer the transit time, the longer the toxic waste matter sits in our bowel which allows proteins to putrefy, fats to rancify, and carbohydrates to ferment.
The longer your body is exposed to putrefying food in your intestines, the greater the risk of developing disease. Even with one bowel movement per day, you will still have at least three meals worth of waste matter putrefying in your colon at all times. On top of all this, your system can also become continuously self-polluting by the poisonous gases that are caused by foods you don't tolerate. These poisonous gases can enter your bloodstream, irritating your organs and joints.
Alternating between constipation and diarrhea, or diarrhea alone, are also indications of foul matter in your intestines. And finally, the much more serious problems of cancer and other immune system dysfunctions begin with a toxic bowel.
A good colon cleanse can help restore the colon and bowel to a healthy working condition.
A word about diverticulitis
At the turn of the last century, diverticulitis was unheard of.
By 1987 almost 80% of Americans have some form of the disease. Diverticula are saccular herniations, that protrude through the wall of the colon. These "bowel pockets" are almost always asymptomatic, (you can't feel them). They are caused by a SLUGGISH constipated bowel. These pockets fill with OLD Fecal material which can be REABSORBED back into the Bloodstream! This can infect the ENTIRE body causing ALL types of TOXIC REACTIONS!!
Look at what can happen to the shape of a persons lower intestines. This can happen when toxic matter builds up on their intestinal wall throughout the years:
As the colon becomes impacted with dry putrefactive waste, its shape and function are affected in numerous ways. It may stretch like a balloon
in certain areas, or develop diverticula (pouches on the intestinal wall which may become infected), or fall down upon itself (prolapsed colon). All of these colon malformations greatly impair your large intestine's ability to function, which in turn places severe strain on your digestive organs and glands and affects nutrient assimilation and absorption. The colon is the body's "sewer system", and if not treated properly can accumulate toxic poisons, which are absorbed into the bloodstream. This in turn can
cause many diseases.
Colon Cleansing
Can Remove Mucoid Plaque From the Colon.
Even a thin layer of mucoid plaque weakens the body. Nature intended mucoid plaque to be sloughed off. But due to stress and diet, most Americans have many hardened layers of mucoid plaque. The healthy colon weighs about 4 pounds. One autopsy revealed a colon choked with 40 pounds of impacted mucoid plaque! A proper colon cleanse and detoxification program prepares your body for optimal health by removing the mucoid plaque.
This mucoid plaque, when it is removed during an intensive colon cleanse, often shows ropelike twists, striations, overlaps, folds, creases—the shape and texture of the intestinal wall.
Mucoid plaque may vary considerably, depending on the chemical conditions in a person’s intestines. It may be hard and brittle; it may be firm and thick; tough, wet, and rubbery; soft, thick, and mucoid; or soft, transparent, and thin; it can range in color from light brown, black, or greenish-black to yellow or grey, and sometimes emits an intensely foul odor.
The term mucoid plaque, meaning a film of mucus, describes the unhealthy accumulation of abnormal mucous matter on the walls of the intestines. Conventional medicine knows this as a layering of mucin or glycoproteins (made up of 20
amino acids and 50% carbohydrates) which are naturally and appropriately secreted by intestines as protection from acids and toxins.
However, mucoid plaque is different from the mucosal lining (mucosa) of the gastrointestinal tract. The latter acts as a necessary buffer to the gastrointestinal wall and as a lubricant for peristalsis. It is also responsible for the secretion of mucins which comprise mucoid plaque. The cells of the outermost layer of the mucosa (the epithelium) stay fresh and vital, renewing themselves every four to seven days.
It sounds paradoxical, but medical research indicates that mucoid plaque is a normal self-defense measure—natural protection from unnatural toxins.
Evidence indicates that mucoid plaque, with the possible exception of that found in the stomach, is unnatural to the healthy body and is found only after the body has moved away from perfect health and into a diseased state. The theory goes that if you were completely healthy, your system would produce no mucoid plaque because it wouldn’t need to.
When the body has been chronically subjected to (or put under attack by) drugs (such as aspirin or alcohol), salt, heavy metals (including dental mercury), toxic chemicals, parasites, harmful microbes and their toxins, and circulating immune complexes (immune cells locked onto undigested particles or foreign substances in the bloodstream), it produces mucoid plaque to protect itself.
The trouble is once the mucoid plaque is created, for whatever biologically important reason, it is not routinely excreted from the intestines. Instead it lodges in the numerous folds and crevices of this large organ and can remain there for many years. Over time, the mucoid plaque grows thicker, firmer, and more widespread—colonizing, as it were, the tennis court–sized interior of the intestines. Old feces adhere to the plaque and are not removed during a normal bowel motion.
The plaque slows down intestinal action, both waste excretion and nutrient absorption. It can harbor pathogens, including bacteria and parasites, which actually hide underneath the plaque; it may block the normal outflow of lymph and mucin drainage. It binds toxins to itself and contributes to bowel toxicity, slowly emitting toxins into the bloodstream. Finally, plaque creates a friendly environment for disease, in some cases for colon cancer and gastric carcinomas.
Gradually your immune system is weakened as the chronically toxic bowel environment destroys useful bacteria. Your liver becomes overburdened by the unprocessed intestinal toxins, and nerve meridian points in the intestines related to hundreds of other parts of the body are compromised.
A toxic bowel results in toxic
blood and lymph, toxic organs and cells, and toxic function. The bowel “feeds” every organ, tissue, and cell in our bodies, so when the quality of feeding from the digestive system is contaminated or of poor quality, the cells and organs elsewhere in the body will be compromised and grow sluggish and inefficient.
Dr.
Clark Bowel &
Colon Cleanse Ingredients
Turmeric
- Aids liver and
digestive problems
- Anti-inflammatory and
antibacterial
- High Fiber
- Regulates acid and bile
production
- Promotes cleansing
and detoxification mediated by the liver
- Creates an
unfriendly environment for parasites
Turmeric has its roots in traditional Chinese and Ayurvedic
medicine. Considered to be a cleansing herb, turmeric is used
in herbal medicine practices to aid liver and digestive
problems, including upset stomach, flatulence, and abdominal
cramping. Turmeric’s anti-inflammatory properties also
have beneficial effects on rheumatoid arthritis
and osteoarthritis.
The active compound in turmeric, curcumin, has antioxidant
properties. As a topical skin remedy, Turmeric’s antimicrobial
and anti-inflammatory properties aid insect bites, fungal
infections of the skin, minor wounds, and skin conditions such
as eczema and psoriasis. Curcumin is also believed to increase
bile production and flow from the liver, enhancing the breakdown
of fats during digestion.*
Cascara Sagrada
- Natural laxative,
induces peristalsis
- Promotes
regularity
- Helps with
occasional constipation
- Supports
gallbladder health
Native to the Pacific Northwest regions of the United States and
Canada, the bark of the cascara sagrada tree has been used as an
herbal laxative for centuries. Early Spanish explorers called
it “sacred bark” (English translation of cascara sagrada), after
observing how Native Americans used this herb in folk medicine
applications. The bark was steeped to make a tea used to
alleviate constipation. In the 1890s the US Pharmacopeia
recognized cascara sagrada’s medicinal uses, mainly as a natural
laxative.
The active component in cascara sagrada, anthraquinone, induces
peristalsis, the involuntary constriction and relaxation of the
muscles of the intestine, creating wave-like movements that push the
contents of the canal forward to
encourage bowel movements. These contractions help to tone the
relaxed muscles lining the intestine. Although it is used
primarily to alleviate constipation, cascara sagrada may benefit
colitis (inflammation of the colon), upset stomach, hemorrhoids,
jaundice and liver problems. The presence of cascara sagrada
encourages increased bile secretion from the gallbladder, which
helps to break up and prevent gallstones, and also improves the
breakdown and digestion of proteins.
Cautions:
Large doses of anthraquinones may cause
bloody diarrhea or vomiting. Do not take more than recommended
doses. Long-term use can cause dependence.
Our formula is free from
manufacturing agents, coatings, colorings, binders, release
agents and so forth. It contains no Magnesium Stearate, Silica, Dioxides, Sulfates, Starch, Soy, Nuts,
Milk. Only pure and certified
high purity gelatin capsules, BSE, Halal and Kosher
certified. Manufactured in accordance with GMP and Dr. Hulda
Clark’s protocols.
Fennel Seed
- Promotes better digestion and
nutrient absorption
- Anti-inflammatory,
anti-spasmodic, anti-oxidant, anti-carcinogen properties
- Natural gentle
laxative properties, induces peristalsis
- Stimulates
enzyme production
Fennel's documented use goes back to ancient China, and the
plant is mentioned in virtually every European work on herbal
medicines from ancient times to modern day.
While fennel seed is utilized in the culinary world for is
anise-like flavor, it’s considered a popular multipurpose remedy
in the natural health community. A natural source of vitamins,
minerals and dietary fiber, fennel seed can be used to aid a
variety of digestive ailments.
Fennel seed has several medicinal qualities that make it a
suitable remedy to combat many conditions. Most noteworthy is
fennel seed’s power to combat digestive discomforts. Fennel seed
contains anethole, a compound that has anti-spasmodic,
anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, and anti-carcinogenic properties. The volatile oils in fennel seed
increase the secretion of digestive enzymes in the stomach,
which promotes better digestion and nutrient absorption. As a
mild laxative, fennel seed encourages the muscular contractions
that propel contents through the digestive track. The
anti-spasmodic, anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, and
anti-carcinogenic properties make it ideal for those suffering from
indigestion, heartburn, constipation, irritable bowel syndrome
(IBS), colitis, and Crohn's disease.
Fennel seed also has
antioxidants that help to defend the body from free radical
damage.
Betaine
HCL
- A potent digestive aid
- Aids in protein and fat
digestion
- Supports optimal stomach
acidity*
Betaine hydrochloride (Betaine HCL) is an acidic form of Betaine,
a vitamin-like substance found in grains and other foods.
Betaine HCL is recommended as a supplemental source of
hydrochloric acid
for people who have a deficiency of
stomach acid production, a condition called hypochlorhydria.
The acidic environment in the
stomach helps to break down dietary fats and protein for better
assimilation of the smaller nutritional components in the
body—proteins into peptides and amino acids, fats into fatty
acids.
Hydrochloric acid (HCL) helps in the digestion of fats and
proteins. As we get older, the stomach’s ability to secrete HCL
weakens. Lowered acidity in the stomach is a leading cause of
digestive complaints and can lead to chronic inflammation if
left untreated. Insufficient acidity leaves undigested food
particles to rot, disallowing vital nutrients to be absorbed. It
also creates an environment more prone to support the
proliferation of potentially harmful microorganisms. Symptoms of
low stomach acidity may include gas, bloating, food allergies,
constipation, anemia, and nausea.
The digestive enzyme pepsin is
activated in an acidic environment. Because pepsin and HCL work
together to break down your food, healthcare professionals
recommend taking pepsin at the same time you take your HCL
supplements. (see our enzymes)
Magnesium Oxide
- Natural Stool Softener
- Promotes Healthy Bowel
Action
- Supports Energy Production
- Critical for Enzyme
Function
- Nervous System Support
The laxative effect of
magnesium appears to come through two different mechanisms.
Magnesium relaxes the muscles in the intestines which helps to
establish a smoother rhythm called
peristalsis (the wavelike motion which moves fecal matter
through your intestines). Magnesium also
attracts water. This increased amount of water in the colon
serves to soften the stool, helping to make stools easier to
pass.
Magnesium does have a
well-established reputation for its laxatives qualities. Of
interest is a 2006
study that looked at the relationship between constipation
and water, fiber, and magnesium intake. The study was conducted
in Japan with a whopping number of 3,835 subjects who were
between the ages of 18 and 20. Constipation was not found
to be associated with low fiber intake or low intake of water
from fluids. Constipation was associated with
low intake of magnesium and low intake of water from foods.
Magnesium is a mineral that is
present in relatively large amounts in the body. Researchers
estimate that the average person’s body contains about 25 grams
of magnesium, and about half of that is in the bones. Magnesium
is important in more than 300 chemical reactions that keep the
body working properly. People get magnesium from their diet, but
sometimes magnesium supplements are needed if magnesium levels
are too low. Dietary intake of magnesium may be low,
particularly among women.
Magnesium is a mineral that is
critical for energy production and metabolism, muscle
contraction, nerve impulse transmission and bone mineralization.
It is a required cofactor for an estimated 300 enzymes in the
body, and acts in concert with calcium to support cell, tissue,
and organ functions. Magnesium also contributes significantly to
bone formation and mineralization. Among the reactions
catalyzed by these enzymes are fatty acids synthesis, protein
synthesis and glucose metabolism.
Digestive Enzymes
- Optimal Support For Healthy
Digestion
- Breaks Down Fats, Carbs &
Protein
- Optimizes Nutrient Uptake
Digestive enzymes are specialized proteins that help facilitate the proper break down of the foods we eat. They jump start metabolism and enhance the body’s natural ability to break down food in to basic nutrient forms, which are absorbed into the body and perform life-sustaining functions. Digestive enzymes are secreted by the pancreas and enter the stomach and small intestine, where food particles continue to be broken down and nutrients are ultimately absorbed into the body. Our potent combination of digestive enzymes helps to ensure that foods are properly broken down and vital nutrients are accessible in the body.

Bowel Program - Sample Chart
In her books, Dr. Clark talks a lot about 'going
faster' or 'going slower'. This is simply because
some people can handle taking more caps and supplements than
others. As you'll see by reading the directions on each
bottle, there are options on how much to take, and when to take
each product, so we have taken the liberty to share our chart
with you.
This chart is based on
maximum recommended doses per bottle, or about 17 days’
worth. One can always use slightly less, and “stretch out” the
process a bit longer. With an impacted bowel, or in large
persons, it may be beneficial to complete a second full 16 day
program. Why? It’s very simple: the more intestinal sludge,
bacteria, parasites, and/or plaque present, the more flushing or
cleansing may be needed. If you’re generally constipated and
find that you quickly revert back to a bloated, constipated
state, consider a second round of the bowel cleanse, or
continued use of a good enzyme and probiotic product.

Elements of a Good Bowel \ Colon Cleanse:
One important facet of bowel cleansing that is USUALLY overlooked is a PARASITE regime. Parasites (like a toxic bowel) also play a major role in MOST disease. A toxic bowel is directly correlated to increased risk of parasite infestation. Scientists have identified over
300 types of parasites
thriving in America. The types include pinworms, tapeworms, ringworms, whipworms, hookworms, roundworms, Giardia lamblia, and even many microscopic varieties. Regular diarrhea is often a sign of parasites in the bowels.
These body invaders are present and become even more dangerous when you consider that most U.S. physicians don't recognize the classic symptoms of parasite infestation, so they manage their patients with symptom care, never getting to the root cause.
Read more here about the importance of parasite cleansing
here.
In general,
elements of a good colon cleanse should include:
A Parasite Protocol.
Not included in the "basic" colon cleanse kit, but is available.
Gentle Herbal Laxative.
A formula to gently stimulate bowel muscle action to help break up
toxic waste build up.
Herbal Nutrition Targeted for Bowel.
As toxic sludge begins to release into your body, you need to
bolster your system’s ability to detoxify.
Enzymes and
enzyme enhancers. Enzymes, healthy
acids, oxygen agents, and other constituents greatly assist the body in breaking down food more completely. Especially old putrefied matter that has has collected and begun to form
mucoid plaque along the bowel wall.
Internal "Scrubbers" like
Bentonite Clay and
Psyllium Husk.
Bentonite clay first adsorbs toxins (heavy metals, free radicals, pesticides), attracting them to its extensive surface area where they adhere like flies to sticky paper; then it absorbs the toxins, taking them in the way a sponge mops up a kitchen counter mess.
Psyllium Seed is an intestinal cleanser. Excellent for removing old accumulated mucus and feces that may have become impacted in pockets of the colon. Acts as a bulky mucilaginous material to aid in elimination.
IMPORTANT! In general, scrubbers like these should be used AFTER an initial phase of colon cleansing. We like these products, but one needs to be very careful when using them, and may
seriously wish consulting your physician while using these products. Complications may arise if you use too much. Some researchers feel that clay can be toxic. Because of the potential risk of painful bowel symptoms with these products, we do not sell them. Everything we sell is FREE OF ALL POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS.
Colonics like
water and coffee enemas can dramatically aid the cleansing process.
Not hard to understand this one. Flushing out the lower colon
and bowels simply help to remove any built up material that can be
"caught" in folds, tears, or diverticula pockets, thereby reducing
the risk of complications associated with rotting matter and
toxemia.
Things you can do to enhance your
bowel / colon cleanse:
Reduce Your Eating.
This enables your body to focus on clearing out the toxins and old fecal matter without the distraction and energy output of digesting new foods. Whenever possible, eat 5-10 small meals or healthy snacks throughout the day to avoid "overloading" the bowel (like most of us do daily). See our 13-Day Whole Food Cleanse here for a great food source.
Drink lots of CLEAN water. At least 1/2 gallon to 1 gallon daily. Alkaline water can assist the removal of acids.
Eat Whole Foods
whenever possible!
Whole foods (fruits and vegetables) are much easier for the colon and body to process, and will provide valuable natural enzymes that are alive.
Dietary Changes.
It is generally recommended that we do not eat meat during the cleanse in order to reduce acid-forming dietary input. Especially red meat. If you DO eat meat, make sure it is well done, and eat a small portion. We strongly advise NOT eating breads, rices, and pastas that use
bleached flour. Also, you may wish to avoid potatoes,
yams, and sweet potatoes during and 30 days after you have completed the colon cleanse.
Enemas. If you wish to see quicker results for waste removal, consider colonic enemas. These can be done in conjunction with the herbal cleanse we sell. You can do them yourself at home. (Your local drug store should have these.) Enemas are very effective whenever you're doing ANY kind of body cleanse, because so many toxins and dead bio-organisms end up in your bowels. The more toxicity you can eliminate quickly, the better the results you can see with your colon cleanse (and subsequent body cleanses), and overall health.
Epsom Salts. A great natural remedy for constipation is to use Epsom Salts. Add 2-4 teaspoons to 8 ounces of water, and drink before bed. (several nights in a row if need be) This is a great natural laxative, and should help the colon make more productive bowel movements.
Olive Oil. Another simple thing you can try is taking a tablespoon of Virgin Olive Oil BEFORE dinner. This adds healthy fat, which aids the passing of waste by softening stool and lubricating the bowel.
Ozonate your olive oil for best results.
Juicing.
The last thing we highly recommend for immediate relief and increased regularity is "juicing". Lots of green veggies with just a little fruit to sweeten. With an empty stomach (for best results), drink 8-12 ounces daily for a week or two, then you can back off to a more suitable schedule for you. We often find
fast results for constipation by juicing. If you are chronically backed up, you should use a juicer that removes the fiber. Too much
non-soluble fiber in an impacted bowel can make you feel bloated, and be counter productive to the cleanse. By using a normal juicer (normally removes most of the fiber), you get a concoction that is literally alive with enzymes that can more easily move through the bowel and begin to eat away and loosen bowel and colon sludge. Many people report having "blowouts" within hours after their 1st 12 ounce juice. Juicing will also accomplish the next suggestion.
Antioxidants.
As the intestines begin to purge themselves of old matter and plaque, large amounts of toxins and free radicals are released. It is prudent to take an
antioxidant
formula while doing the colon cleanse to help your system clean up
these released toxins.
A Word About The Cleansing Process
The body's systems work together and rely on each other to properly process all the nutrition and poison we take in daily. As with any complex system, there is a BEST way to go about maintaining it. For anyone serious about cleansing, we HIGHLY recommend a comprehensive, and systematic approach.
This sequence is highly recommended by many natural health practitioners and medical doctors alike.
The idea is to clean the sludge out of the digestive the system, so when we eventually reach the liver flush, we get as much toxins, dead parasites, and
liver/gallstones out as possible. Toxic accumulations are eliminated from the alimentary canal and then toxic overloads start releasing from the liver, kidneys, and lymphatic system. This allows the entire body to detoxify and function more efficiently.
